Sheltering Tree Meets Wetlands for PP227

When I saw The Paper Players Color Challenge of Crisp Cantaloupe, Lost Lagoon, and Sahara Sand, I immediately thought of the beach.   When I sat down to create my card I had just received the Sheltering Tree stamp set and thought the “grass” image could be used for sand dunes and waves.

  • For the sand dunes I inked the stamp using Sahara Sand and stamped several times across the banner.
  • I inked the stamp using Lost Lagoon, stamped off twice, and then stamped the image upside down to make the waves.

Thinking of You x 2

I’m always amazed at how different cards look even when they use the same ingredients. Both cards below use the Wetlands and the Sweet Essentials stamp sets.  Paper is Chocolate Chip, Island Indigo, and Naturals Ivory.  Ink is Chocolate Chip, Island Indigo, and Old Olive.

My First Version:

Version #1

Version #1

A sketch from Freshly Made Sketches inspired the layout of this card.  I created 2 separate focal areas with the birds in the horizontal panel and the grass in the vertical panel, as well as along the bottom of the card.  Two Island Indigo candy dots help balance the color.

My Second Version:

Version #2

Version #2

For this card I chose a clean and simple design with the only embellishment being several strands of Linen Thread, Island Indigo, and Early Espresso Baker’s Twine wrapped around the card.

I think the second version is my favorite.  Which is your favorite?

Enjoy, and happy stamping!

Don’t you wish you were sitting on this beach enjoying the view? The view was created using the Direct to Paper technique and images were stamped using the Wetlands stamp set. The scalloped embossing folder used on the card base represents water and reinforces the theme.
